This starter is very easy to make, with minimal ingredients, and is very versatile in its usage. This is one of the easiest marinades you can use for roasting your tofu, paneer, potatoes or bell peppers. I use it in my Asian Buddha Bowls as one of the condiments - add this tofu, along with some greens, some millets or quinoa and some sauteed veggies and you're good to go! This tofu starter is a great protein addition to your meals. Jazz it up with some wilted greens and its a great starter for your Asian spread as well.
SERVES 2
INGREDIENTS
100 gm Tofu cut into cubes
1 tbsp sesame oil
Marinade:
3 cloves garlic minced
2 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp vinegar (rice, preferable)
½ tbsp honey, or maple syrup if vegan
Wilted greens:
1 cup roughly torn spinach or kale
2 cloves garlic chopped
1 green or red chilli chopped
1 tsp sesame oil
a pinch of salt
METHOD
Press and drain the water from the tofu and then cut in cubes.
Mix all the ingredients of the marinade. Place the tofu in this mixture for half an hour.
Heat a pan and pour sesame oil in it. Once its hot, add the tofu along with the marinade.
Cook on both sides until brown. The marinade will stick to the tofu and caramelise because of the sugar content in it.
Take off from flame and garnish with sesame seeds and spring onion greens.
For the greens, heat a pan with sesame oil in it.
Add the garlic and chillis and cook until the garlic is toasted.
Add the greens and salt and cook just until its wilted. It takes less than a min.
Take off from flame and serve along with the tofu.
*You can substitute the tofu with paneer, if not vegan.
*You can use this tofu as the protein content in your Buddha bowls.
