Are you on a diet? Do those 5 pm hunger pangs strike u frequently? Does your hand reach out for the 'forbidden' duo - fried foods and sweetmeats?
With the right choices, you can indulge as well as stay on your diet.
In these Green Chips,I have used spinach, kale and swiss chard. These dark leafy greens pack a powerful nutritional punch. Easy to make, and you can give in to your fried food cravings too. Just follow the procedure exactly, and you can't go wrong.
SERVES 1 BOWL
INGREDIENTS
100 gm mixed greens like kale, swiss chard, spinach (you can use any one as well)
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt to taste
½ tsp cumin powder
METHOD
Wash all the greens well.
Dry them completely by laying them on paper towels. Pat dry with a fresh towel, whatever moisture remains. This is very important, otherwise you will end up with soggy chips - as this moisture will cause the chips to steam in the oven, rather than crunch up.
Remove the stalk and tear the leaves roughly, not bigger than 3-4 inch bits. This will remove the bitter taste.
Take the leaves in a bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and massage gently and thoroughly with your fingers to ensure even coating.
Take an oven tray and lay a silicon mat or parchment paper on it. Lay the leaves flat and without touching.
Bake in a preheated oven in 120°C for about 10 min. Keep an eye on them because they might burn. Every oven works differently so I suggest you start watching after 8 min.
Take them out of the oven and cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
Though they don't spoil for 2-3 days but they don't remain as crisp. If you want to recrisp them, bake them in the oven again for few min.
I have only mentioned cumin flavouring, but you can be as creative as you like with the seasonings - peri peri powder, chilli powder, garlic powder or only salt - anything works.
I have used a mix of 3 greens - you can use only 1 as well. According to me, the best tasting is kale.
